Chocolate Covered Strawberries

10 Mar

The ancient Maya worshiped chocolate as a gift from the heavens. The Aztecs revered chocolate, reserving it for the elite of society. The Europeans feared chocolate, a dangerous drug served up in hotbeds of sedition.

The seductive history of chocolate makes this sensory pleasure all the more sensual! There is nothing more indulgent than strawberries dipped in dark chocolate infused with Grand Marnier. Well…maybe served with a nice Cava!

  • Heavy Cream, 6 tablespoons
  • Orange Zest, 1 teaspoon ( I like to use blood oranges)
  • Semisweet Chocolate, 1 cup
  • Ground Coffee, 1/2 teaspoon (I like to use Starbuck’s Verona)
  • Grand Marnier Liqueur, 3 tablespoons
  • Light Corn Syrup, 2 tablespoons
  • Strawberries, 1 pint

Chocolate Covered Strawberries:

  • In a metal bowl set over simmering water, heat cream and orange zest.
  • Add chocolate, coffee, Grand Marnier, and corn syrup and stir until the chocolate is melted and smooth.
  • Dip strawberries in chocolate.
  • Lay chocolate covered strawberries on a parchment lined baking sheet and let harden in the freezer.
  • Voilà! Enjoy!

While preparing these tiny temptations I had visions of stealing away to Paris to study at Le Cordon Bleu!
